Hi, I’m Mark,
I am 54 and father to a daughter, Olivia who is now a young woman. I am step-grandad to 2 grandchildren and live in Birstall with my partner Debbie. I have been working for Dad Matters since September 2023, after 18 years of owning a barbering business.
In my short time with Dad Matters I have witnessed the struggles that soon to be and new dads go through, using my experiences as a dad and my training, I feel empowered by the Dad Matters vision to help dads and ultimately their families.
I am avid about football and support a local team. I am a single figure golfer, love watching films, collecting vinyl records and spending time with my friends and family.

Dad Matters projects are run through their local Home-Start Scheme ,
Dad Matters is managed by local Home-Start Schemes, who have been providing support to families since 1973
At Home-Start, we know that being a parent isn’t always easy and that life can bring stress and challenges that get in the way of an enjoyable family life.
We support parents with pre school children, helping them give their children the best possible start in life. Offering a unique, confidential family support service, Home-Starts approach has a proven, lasting, positive impact on the development of children and the health and well-being of their parents. We provide support to families who are finding parenting a challenge due to external stresses such as depression, loneliness, illness or disability. Our team of volunteers visit a parent in their home each week for a few hours to support, empower and motivate, encouraging positive change.

Born and bred in Wakefield
Born and Bred in Wakefield (BaBi Wakefield)
Born and Bred in Wakefield (BaBi Wakefield) is an exciting initiative which aims to link existing data across health, education, and social care to create a picture of families’ lives over time.
BaBi Wakefield is our local place for BiB4All. Developed in Bradford, this is one of the largest research studies in the world, aiming to find out what influences the health and wellbeing of families. It is now expanding to reach other areas and regions, including Wakefield.
BaBi Wakefield provides an opportunity to explore regional maternal and child health and wellbeing issues. Using local data which is routinely collected, this birth study will support the development of shared research, investigating key questions around the health of people living in Wakefield and how this can be improved. This will provide a really useful insight for service providers, researchers and commissioners, to help inform the future development of services.
It is our first significant venture for the newly established collaborative Wakefield Research Hub, focusing on maternity services initially and reflecting the interests and concerns of local people.
